Concerns with Acidification in Oceans

Pollution in rivers, lakes and oceans has been in the news for years. Overloading of contaminates creates several different types of water problems. According to The Environmental Protection Agency  “Polluted runoff occurs when rain, snowmelt, irrigation water, and other water sources move across and through land, picking up pollutants and carrying them into lakes, rivers, wetlands, coastal waters and underground sources of drinking water.” There are other issues as well, including acidification in oceans.

In an article in the Huffington Post, Pierce Nahigyan writes “The ocean absorbs about 30 percent of the CO2 emitted from human activities. As the volume of atmospheric CO2 grows, the ocean collects its proportionate share. To give you an idea of how much that is, in 2013, countries emitted nearly 40 billion tons of carbon.  According to the World Meteorological Organization , that represents the biggest surge in CO2 concentration since 1984.”
