What the National Ready Mix Concrete Association is saying about Pervious Concrete

According to the NRMCA “the proper utilization of pervious concrete is a Best Management Practice by the U.S. Environmental protection Agency(EPA) for providing first flush pollution control and stormwater management.”

Here is everything and more than you ever wanted to know about pervious concrete.

The NRMCA offers great information on pervious and other concrete applications; it is your one stop shop for information on pervious concrete.

Pervious Pavement: Rescuing a Reservior Near You?

by Chris Keenan

Why Stormwater Management is important to you

Stormwater is not just the result of rainstorms, it is made up of water from precipitation events including rain and snow, but it is also caused from the runoff produced while watering your lawn. In downtown and urban areas this problem is more of an issue due to larger impervious surfaces such as roads, parking lots and buildings.  These impervious surfaces do not drain like sand and soil.

Why this is a problem

Hardscapes such as parking lots which are impervious, direct large amounts of water across their surfaces into a common path, leading to flooding, erosion and change in waterways.

Pervious surfaces (soil, sand and Percoa) send the water directly into the ground where it lands.

 This process

  1. slows down erosion by cutting water velocity from rain events
  2. keeps water on site rather than directing it into a common path, which causes flash flooding
  3. protects waterways from large dumping’s of stormwater, which triggers flooding due to excess water in the system

Why this is important to you

Water is a precious commodity and we cannot live without it. Changing waterways course changes ecosystems. Polluted runoff pollutes groundwater. Flooding and pollutants cause weed invasions in lakes, streams and rivers.

Effective Stormwater management is a vital step in protecting our precious commodity, water.

Using Percoa as your stormwater management plan benefits not only you but our water systems as well.

Water is life’s master and matrix, mother and medium. There is no life without water.

Do you know the significance of 11:11?

Neither did I.
On a regular basis I found myself looking at the clock to see 11:11. I began to wonder at its significance, if any. More interesting is that my boyfriend was doing the same thing.

Apparently we are not the only ones seeing 11:11; that said, I am going to put some thought into what it means for me. My passion is cleaning up our water ways, so maybe helping change our world for the better is my path.
Think of clean water when you see 11:11

Knowing that it was not just me, I set out to find answers, I hit the web.
What I found were pages and pages on Google about the significance of 11:11. Common themes were spiritual, metaphysical, astronomical and religious.

*And many believe that repeatedly seeing the number 11:11 is a sign that your spirit guide is trying to get your attention

Mathematically the number eleven has a special characteristic in mathematics where it is the sixth prime number. It contains some interesting peculiarities where the number eleven times itself equals a palindrome:
